There was a time when Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ and Ajay Devgn’s ‘Son of Sardar’ released on the same day in 2012. Back then, neither of the side took it lightly and a lot of bad blood was generated between them. It was the so called ‘Clash of the Titans’, which bamboozled, like Titanic, and ruined the dynamics of the relationships.
Cut to this year, when on October 2, two of the most awaited movies of the year – Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Haider’ and Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Bang Bang’ – are set to release and what we are seeng is totally opposite to what happened two years back.
While Shahid Kapoor has been wishing the best for ‘Bang Bang’, Hrithik was quoted saying, “We will change the norms of the industry and prove that two big films can release on the same day and work well.”
Now, both movies have little to lose. While ‘Haider’ is a dark, tragic revenge drama and completes the Shakespearean trilogy of Vishal Bharadwaj, ‘Bang Bang’ is an out-and-out masala potboiler with high octane action sequences and some scorchingly hot chemistry between the lead couple – Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif. Both appeal to different sets of audience. And both have been promoted very differently till now.
While Shahid kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor have been travelling all over India with ‘Haider’, Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif are more relying on the movie’s USP – they themselves. Hrithik, however, has come up with a unique way of promoting his movie – The #BangBangDare.
He has been daring to dare other Bollywood stars on Twitter to fulfil the challenges thrown at them. So, one could see Shah Rukh Khan showing off his fab ab exercises, Ranveer Singh dancing in the middle of Mumbai streets and Farhan Akhtar cycling on the roads just for their friend. All this while, ‘Haider’ Shahid Kapoor was kept out of all this, quite understandably, as his ‘Haider’ releases on the same day.
But hey! Make no mistake! This is 2014. And this is the age of Marketing. A rather sporting Shahid Kapoor approved of Ranveer Singh’s #BangBangDare and expressed his desire to face something similar. He tweeted Hrithik:
You find this surprising? Hmmm! We don’t. Read on.
Gone are the days of intense rivalry and cut throat competion! With the emergence of new and young stars – Arjun Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Parineeti Chopra, Shraddha Kapoor – on the block, there seems to be an advent of a new found camaraderie amongst the Bollywood stars. Not only these stars seem to comfortable in the niche they have carved out for themselves, but also appear welcoming for others’ hits and hard work.
Arjun Kapoor leads the pack here. He seldom shies away from appreciating his Bollywood buddies. And he has a different way altogether when it comes to praising his ‘Gunday’ co-star Ranveer Singh. Approving Ranveer’s ‘Kill Dil’ title track, that released on September 25, he tweeted:
To this, Ranveer asked his followers:
Interesting, we say! This ‘bromantic’ duo is always seen chit-chatting over Twitter and showcasing their ‘baba’-love towards each other.
Parineeti Chopra is also often seen exchanging pleasantries over the microblogging site. She congratulated Alia Bhatt and Shraddha Kapoor on the success of ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ and ‘Ek Villain’ respectively. And this goes to be her most ‘awww-inspiring’ tweet ever.
If this sweetness wasn’t enough, there are our celebrities promoting, endorsing, appreciating each other’s movies. “Oh! We watched this movie premiere and its awesome…makes for a must watch” and the likes are the order of the day just before the release of any movie. So, we see Karan Johar praising Mahesh Bhatt’s movies, Mahesh Bhatt ‘waiting’ for Anurag Kashyap’s movies and vice-versa.
The bonhomie is heartrending, we admit, but is it here to stay? Or will it fizzle away if and when the movies start eating into other movies’ business? Quirky question! But does it need an answer?
Guess, some questions are best left unanswered, for this is the time to read, laugh and enjoy the actors’ conversations over Twitter. And we just hope and pray the bonhomie stays like this forever.
For now, let’s wait for Hrithik Roshan’s reply to Shahid Kapoor’s tweet. Will he or won’t he?
And as far as the ‘Clash of the Titans’ is concerned, may the best movie win.
