The trailer of Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher-starrer Ghoomer is out and gives a sneak peek into the story of a cricketer, played by Kher, who loses her right arm in an accident. Abhishek plays her mentor who makes it his mission to train her and succeed as a cricketer.
The trailer shows her story of getting selected in the national team and just as everything is working out for her, she loses her arm in a car wreck. The training montage where Bachchan’s character trains her to use her left hand just as effectively forms the crux of the plot here. We eventually see her playing for Team India. Angad Bedi and Shabana Azmi also star in the film. Amitabh Bachchan also appears in the trailer.

Directed by R Balki, Ghoomer’s idea was inspired by the life of Hungarian right-hand shooter Karoly Takacs. He won two Olympic gold medals using his left hand after his right hand was injured. This idea inspired Balki and he decided to make it into a cricket film. He told PTI at the 53rd International Film Festival of India, “I suggested let’s make it a cricket film rather than a shooting film as people will take a lot of time to understand (the sport).”
Balki added that there have been many films on cricket and he did not want to make another cricket movie. “If I’m doing (just) a cricket film, what would I give back to cricket or the sport? We did a lot of research and actually came up with a new delivery, which cricket has not seen… So, that’s interesting,” he said.
R Balki recently directed Dulquer Salmaan starrer Chup Revenge of the Artist. He has previously worked with Abhishek Bachchan in Paa. Ghoomer releases on August 18.
