Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher starrer Ghoomer is all set to hit the theatres on August 18. Ahead of the release, the film and cricket fraternity has heaped praise on the film helmed by R Balki. The film is about the journey of a batter, played by Saiyami, who learns to bowl after losing her right arm in an accident.
In a YouTube video shared by Hope Productions, commentator Harsha Bhogle praised the film and said, “I went to see a movie recently and I went with a combination of excitement and unease.” Talking about Saiyami’s performance, he said, “It’s not just Saiyami – who is a proper cricketer. She’s an actor, but she’s also a proper cricketer. So there was never going to be any doubt about that, but also on how the rest of the characters play.”
The cricketer then spoke about Abhishek’s performance and said, “Then there was Abhishek Bachchan. I think he lives the role of the coach. I love the way Abhishek married the two into his character. I could recognize a couple of cricketers within the character that Abhishek plays, but I’ll leave it for you to decide. But needless to say, he is outstanding especially in the first half.”
Singer Daler Mehndi also took to his Twitter handle and praised Abhishek and called him a ‘volcano of an actor’. Mehndi said that he saw a ‘brand new’ Abhishek in the film and wrote, “Like a Phoenix your acting has risen, this new era is yours to conquer and ours as your fans to cherish. @SaiyamiKher more in awe of your inner being. Brilliant performance. #Ghoomer is beautiful great epic cinema.”
Cricketer Ajinkya Rahane also praised the film and wrote on Twitter, “Loved #Ghoomer the film . It’s an emotional film that will inspire you . Cricket was also very good , good luck team ghoomer. Releasing 18 Aug.” Ghoomer narrates the inspiring tale of a cricketer who overcomes a hand injury through training. The film also stars Shabana Azmi, and Angad Bedi.
