Gadar 2 has slowed down, but it is still to be seen if it catch up and surpass the year’s biggest grosser so far, Pathaan. The Sunny Deol starrer is in its final run at the box office, after dominating it for a month. On Wednesday, Gadar 2 made Rs 51 lakh as per early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, taking its total to Rs 516.59 crore.

The collections of Gadar 2 came crashing down as it faced a big opponent at the box office in the form of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. The Atlee directorial released on September 7 and opened to blockbuster response– both from the critics and audiences.

The overwhelming reception to Jawan has naturally led to a huge drop in the collections of Gadar 2, which had comfortably crossed Rs 500 crore mark despite three Hindi releases OMG 2, Ghoomer and Dream Girl 2. Gadar 2 is eyeing to break the lifetime record of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which stands as the highest grossing Bollywood film at Rs 543.05 crore (nett domestic).

The Hindi record of Pathaan is still achievable for Gadar 2, as the Anil Sharma film is almost Rs 27 crore short of creating history.

Even if Gadar 2 manages to surpass Pathaan’s benchmark, it may well become the film to hold the highest grossing ever spot for the shortest amount of time, as Shah Rukh’s Jawan is likely to top both the films and clock an impressive Rs 550 crore nett in Hindi itself, as per early trade estimates.

Gadar 2 and Jawan will enjoy a mostly free September as the only big film to arrive this month will be the comedy franchise Fukrey 3. Also scheduled to release this month are films like Vicky Kaushal-starrer The Great Indian Family, Shilpa Shetty’s Sukhee and Vivek Agnihotri’s The Vaccine War.
