Even after 17 days since its release, Sunny Deol‘s Gadar 2 refuses to slow down. Industry tracker Sacnilk’s early estimates reveal that the film garnered Rs 17 crore on its third Sunday, August 27. The movie is now on the verge of achieving the monumental Rs 500 crore benchmark, with its total domestic earnings at Rs 456.95 crore.
Demonstrating unwavering consistency into its third week, Gadar 2 has become the fastest film to breach the Rs 450 crore mark at the box office, outpacing the achievements of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Prabhas’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the same and wrote, “NEW RECORD… ‘GADAR 2’ FASTEST TO CROSS ₹ 450 CR… #Gadar2 will cross the enviable ₹ 450 cr mark in #India today [Sun]… In the past, only #Pathaan and #Baahubali2 #Hindi had cruised past ₹ 450 cr mark… ⭐️ #Gadar2: Day 17 [today] ⭐️ #Pathaan: Day 18 ⭐️ #Baahubali2 #Hindi: Day 20 #India biz. After a slight deceleration in the previous week, Gadar 2 maximized the potential of the weekend, drawing large audiences to theaters for the sequel to the 2001 war drama. Gadar 2’s release coincided with OMG 2, and although the Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar-starrer faced tough competition, it managed to hold its ground, accumulating Rs 3.65 crore on Sunday and amassing a total collection of Rs 135.02 crore.
Amidst the competition from Gadar 2, Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl 2, which premiered on August 25, has also managed a commendable performance. The film commenced its box office journey with Rs 10.69 crore and further gained momentum, raking in Rs 16 crore on its first Sunday, resulting in a cumulative collection of Rs 40 crore to date.
Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2, a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster Gadar, also boasts a star-studded cast including Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma, Simratt Kaur and Manish Wadhwa.
