Sunny Deol is returning as Tara Singh on the silver screen in Gadar 2, a sequel to his 2001 hit Gadar. The film will hit the theatres on August 11, along with OMG 2. Down south, it will have its release along with Rajinikanth’s Jailer and Chiranjeevi’s Bholaa Shankar. But given its advance ticket sales, Gadar 2 looks like a clear box office winner in North India already.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh has reported on Twitter that Gadar 2 has already sold over 1.3 lakh tickets for day one. He tweeted, “#Xclusiv… #Gadar2 advance booking status at 4.30 pm… Note: DAY 1 biz…⭐️ #PVR: 40,200 ⭐️ #INOX: 31,900 ⭐️ #Cinepolis: 21,010 ⭐️ #Miraj: 13,316 ⭐️ #Rajhans: 10,000 ⭐️ #Wave: 6,691 ⭐️ #Movietime: 6,356 ⭐️ #MovieMax: 5,515 ⭐️ #M2K: 1,656 ⭐️ #Citypride: 1,250 ⭐️ Total: 1,37,894 tickets sold 🔥🔥🔥.”
Adarsh noted that the advance ticket sale of Gadar 2 in the mass circuits is fantastic. He added in another tweet, “#Gadar2 advance booking status at *national chains*… Note: DAY 1 biz…⭐️ #PVR: 45,200 ⭐️ #INOX: 36,100 ⭐️ #Cinepolis: 24,000 ⭐️ Total: 1,05,300 tickets sold NOTE: Advance ticket sales are fantastic in mass circuits and single screen properties.”
The advance ticket sales of Gadar 2 in the single-screen cinemas are better than this year’s biggest hit, Pathaan. Film trade analyst Sumit Kadel noted on Twitter, “#Gadar2 advance booking at B &C tier single screens is even BIGGER than #Pathaan Such advance booking at SS has not been witnessed in years.. #SunnyDeol has taken us back to 90’s again 🔥🔥🔥🔥.”
The advance ticket sales of Gadar 2 will ensure a solid opening at the box office. Film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi told indianexpress.com that the film will do a business of over Rs 20 cr on the day of its release. The number may go up to Rs 25 cr, depending upon the advance ticket sales on Thursday.
Gadar 2 brings back Sunny Deol as Tara Singh and Ameesha Patel as Sakeena. The sequel sees Tara Singh crossing the border and going to Pakistan to rescue his son, played by Utkarsh Sharma. Helmed by Anil Sharma, the film features the recreated version of the most loved song of its prequel, “Main Nikla Gaddi Le Ke”.
