It has almost been a week since YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial joke on the stage of comedian Samay Raina’s show, India’s Got Latent, landed him in trouble with the moral police and the actual police. Gaurav Taneja, aka Flying Beast, who had previously shared a statement criticising Ranveer, has now said that things are getting out of hand. In a video shared on Instagram, Gaurav said that when the controversy first started, he was happy to see that the youth of the country was getting together to raise their voice against Ranveer, but now, it seems like he is being targeted.
He shared, “When this BeerBiceps controversy first started, I thought the youth of this country is still sensible, all of them are not stupid. I believed that when it comes to their tradition and culture, they will fight, which is absolutely right. A lot of wrong things were said on that show, and this shouldn’t have happened.” After acknowledging this, he immediately raised the question, “But what is happening now?”
He proceeded to ask why all the past panelists, and everyone involved in the show was being summoned, and also brought up Ranveer moving the Supreme Court. “Police from so many states has gotten involved now. I just saw that the editor of the show has been taken in. They have summoned past guests on the show. That guy (Ranveer) had to go to Supreme Court to request that his FIRs be clubbed,” he said, and added that if the authorities were so worried about filthy language, they should have summoned Sundar Pichai also. Pichai is the CEO of Google, which owns YouTube.
“I am saying that go and find Sundar Pichai now. When you are putting up videos on YouTube which have filthy language, doesn’t the algorithm get to know? Why aren’t you getting Sundar Pichai? Because you can’t. They can only get the guy who is weak. They can harass him. Insane!” he said, and added, “Now everyone can see clearly what is happening. This is not the democracy we voted for.” He also added that one’s punishment should be decided in proportion to their crime. He said that law is not about the right vs the wrong, but about who can harass whom, and that is happening in this case now.
Soon after the objectionable episode streamed on YouTube, the controversy began. Ranveer issued an apology, after which YouTube deleted the episode in question. Later, Samay deleted all the old episodes of the show and said he would cooperate with the authorities.
