Farah Khan took to social media on Wednesday as she shared Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s recent advertisement and mentioned that the ad reminded her of how she has risen up from the obstacles that life has thrown at her. Farah said that she had been “subjected to commentary that tried to bring me down” as a choreographer, director and also a woman.
Farah spoke about how she was told that “women can’t make action films”, or how she was “too old to get married” but she carried on anyway. Her caption read, “As I am watching this film, I can’t help but remember how many times I have been subjected to commentary that tried to bring me down in my journey as not only a successful choreographer and director but also as a woman…”
She added, “‘You don’t dress like a Choreographer. You’re too young to be in this field. Women can’t make action films. You’re too old to get married. Too old to have kids.’ Guess what? Here I am and I DID IT. I chose not to give into what society had to say about me but put in the hard work to #RiseUpBaby!”
Samantha’s ad has her defying society’s expectations from women and taking charge of her own life. The beverage company previously released an ad featuring Ranveer Singh.
Farah Khan was one of the first female filmmakers in Hindi cinema who delivered a string of hits in mainstream cinema with films like Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om and Happy New Year. Farah first became a choreographer with Aamir Khan’s Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander with the song ‘Pehla Nasha’ and is still known as one of the most celebrated choreographers. Farah welcomed her triplets in 2008, at 43, via IVF.
