Actor Emraan Hashmi admitted that he ‘made enemies’ after appearing on Koffee with Karan nearly a decade ago, and made controversial comments about his film industry contemporary Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, his uncle Mahesh Bhatt, and his Murder co-star Mallika Sherawat. In a recent interview, he claimed that he hasn’t lost any of his edge, and would probably generate even more controversy if he returns to Koffee with Karan now.

When he was reminded of how popular Reels of his original appearance on KwK are on Instagram, Emraan said with a sigh in an interview with Zoom Entertainment, “You end up making many enemies…” Asked if that’s why he doesn’t go on shows any more, he said, “It’s too much to handle.” But he denied that he has become softer, and said, “If I go on Koffee with Karan again, I’ll make a mess of things again. I’ll probably be worse-off in the rapid fire round than I was before.” On a more humorous note, he added, “I don’t have anything against these people. I just wanted to win the hamper. And then you say weird things.” Emraan’s sentiments about Koffee with Karan were echoed by Ranbir Kapoor, who said on a podcast that he has boycotted the show because of all the trouble it has landed him in.

Emraan had to issue a public apology after calling Aishwarya ‘plastic’ on the popular talk show. “I didn’t mean it. I’m a big fan of Aishwarya. It’s the format of the show. I can’t not say things and not win the hamper. I love her. I have always been a great admirer of her work. I knew people would make a big deal out of it… so what, people make a big deal out of nonsense all the time.”

On the same episode, he’d jokingly said that Mahesh Bhatt was able to buy a Rs 40 crore penthouse in Bandra in large part because of the hit movies that he starred in for the filmmaker. He also called him an ‘extortionist’, and declared that Mallika Sherawat was his ‘worst’ on-screen kiss ever. Emraan can currently be seen in the Salman Khan-starrer Tiger 3, which is nearing the Rs 300 crore mark worldwide. Koffee with Karan, on the other hand, is currently airing its eighth season.
