Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dunki is holding steady at the box office. It recorded a more than 50 per cent jump on Saturday. The Rajkumar Hirani directorial minted Rs 3.50 crore on the 17th day, taking the film’s total collection to an impressive Rs 212 crore. Red Chillies Entertainment recently reported that Dunki has minted Rs 422.90 crore worldwide.
Dunki started strong with Rs 29.2 crore coming in on the first day but its collection witnessed a sharp decline on the very next day as it earned Rs 20.12 crore. However, it managed to maintain a steady footfall in the cinema halls and raked in Rs 160.22 crore in the first week. In the second week, the earnings fell below Rs 50 crore.
Dunki is now eyeing to surpass the overall earnings of Rohit Shetty’s film Chennai Express, starring Shah Rukh and Deepika Padukone. Chennai Express collected Rs 227 crore in India and Rs 424.54 crore at the worldwide box office. The film will become Shah Rukh Khan’s third-highest domestic grosser, after surpassing the earnings of Chennai Express, with Jawan and Pathaan taking the top spots.
The comedy-drama marks the first collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani. The film also stars Boman Irani, Vicky Kaushal and Taapsee Pannu in pivotal roles.
Dunki clashed with Prabhas’ blockbuster Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire at the box office. In 2023, Shah Rukh’s Pathaan and Jawan were massive hits, each making over Rs 1,000 crore worldwide. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala shared that Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki made a remarkable $117 million globally. This feat is unmatched by any other Indian actor in a single year globally, excluding China.
