When the King of Romance extended his support for King of Kotha, there was a viral tweet. Actor Dulquer Salmaan said that Shah Rukh Khan’s gesture of unveiling the trailer of his latest film King of Kotha was a big moment for the team, and especially for him, an “unabashed, unapologetic fanboy” of the superstar.

The Malayalam action thriller marks Dulquer Salmaan’s first full-blown “mass” film, a genre that even Shah Rukh is set to explore with his upcoming Jawan. On August 10, Shah Rukh took to Twitter and shared the trailer of King of Kotha, tagging Dulquer and other cast members including Aishwarya Lekshmi and Shabeer Kallarakkal.

“Congratulations on the impressive #KOKTrailer, @dulQuer! Looking forward to the movie. Big hug to you and wishing the entire team a big success!” Shah Rukh tweeted. In an interview with Indianexpress.com, when asked what Shah Rukh’s support means to him, Dulquer said it was probably the first time that Shah Rukh had championed a Malayalam film on his feed.

“I think this was a first. I am an unabashed, unapologetic fanboy of Shah Rukh Khan. I didn’t even know if it was going to happen! His team was like, ‘Yeah, most probably, probably, may be’, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, oh my God!’ When he posted, I was shocked, and was like, ‘Did this really happen?!'”

Shortly after Shah Rukh’s tweet, Dulquer had replied, writing, “Thank you so so so much Shahrukh Sir! This is such a huge moment for me! Fanboy forever 🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻” The actor said the trailer “just blew up” after Shah Rukh’s tweet.

“We can’t see a wider push than that. It was so kind, the way he worded it. When he wrote ‘big hug to you’, I was like (heart skipped a beat). I am a huge fan. I love his journey and he always inspires all of us. It was a big, big moment for us,” he added.

Aishwarya Lekshmi said that when she saw the tweet, she exclaimed, “‘He knows my name!’ He tagged me, whoever did, but at least he knows my name!” Shabeer Kallarakkal, best known for his performance as Dancing Rose in the acclaimed Sarpatta Parambarai added, “I didn’t see it coming. I am a huge SRK fan and like her, I felt, ‘Wow he has tagged me.’ What a moment!”

Helmed by Abhilash Joshiy, King of Kotha is gearing up for a grand Onam release, opening in cinemas on August 24 in Malayalam along with its dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada. The film is backed by Wayfarer Films and Zee Studios.
