Sunny Deol’s son Rajveer Deol and Poonam Dhillon’s daughter Paloma’s debut film, Dono, was released in theatres on October 6. The film, helmed by Sooraj Barjatya’s son Avnish Barjatya, has minted Rs 35 lakh on the opening day, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The romantic drama couldn’t capitalise on a buy one get one scheme, and an extensive promotional campaign that included endorsements from Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Anupam Kher, among others.
Dono was released alongside Akshay Kumar’s Mission Raniganj and the Bhumi Pednekar ensemble comedy Thank You for Coming. However, even Akshay’s latest failed to impress the audience and minted only Rs 2.80 crore on opening day. Thank You for Coming minted approximately Rs 80 lakh. Sunny’s eldest son Karan Deol made his debut in 2019 with the film Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas. Helmed by Sunny himself, the film had minted Rs 1.3 crore on the opening day, and was eventually declared a flop. Sunny recently bounced back with the blockbuster Gadar 2.
Dono is a romantic drama that takes place at a wedding. Dev and Meghna, played by Rajveer and Paloma, meet at the wedding and fall in love, but they both have had their hearts broken before.
Sunny called the film a ‘modern-day love story’ and he even compared Dono to Imtiaz Ali’s Socha Na Tha. At the trailer launch of the film, Sunny said, “You all must have seen a film that I had produced – Socha Na Tha. I am very proud of that film. This is like that one – actually, even better.”
