Filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee, who is looking forward to the release of Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2, recently opened up about his struggle days in Mumbai and recalled that it was his wife Richa who supported him through that phase. Dibakar said that he made his first film Khosla Ka Ghosla while he was still living in Delhi, but realised soon after that he had to move to Mumbai to sell the film. After spending a considerable amount of time in Mumbai living out of a suitcase, Dibakar asked his wife to look for a job so they could start making a home in the city.

In a chat with Siddharth Kannan, Dibakar recalled that he was showing Khosla Ka Ghosla to various distributors and studios but at that time, he did not have a home in Mumbai. “I was living out of a suitcase in Mumbai, when I was tying to sell the film,” he said, and added, “That’s when I called my wife and I asked her that please see if you can find a job in Mumbai.” His wife Richa agreed, and three weeks later, she had a job.

Dibakar said that she moved to Mumbai with all of their belongings and their pet. “She moved here to the company’s flat and I moved in to our house, that’s how we started living in Mumbai. After that, for two years, my wife supported us,” he said. Dibakar added that during this time, he was making some ad films, while constantly trying to sell Khosla Ka Ghosla. He recalled that enough number of producers and distributors had seen the film in that time and while no one was ready to release Khosla Ka Ghosla, he had started getting offers to make his next film. But all this while, his wife was there to support them financially.

Khosla Ka Ghosla was eventually released by UTV Motion Pictures in 2006. The film starred Anupam Kher, Pravin Dabas, Tara Sharma, Ranvir Shorey and others. It remains a cult favourite.
