Dharmendra reacts to Jaya Bachchan’s crush on him during Guddi days: ‘I’ve known her and Amitabh for a long time now’

Veteran actor Dharmendra is looking forward to the release of his next film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and in a recent chat, the Sholay actor opened up about working with Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi in the Karan Johar film. Dharmendra has previously worked with Jaya in films like Guddi and Sholay, and as per Jaya’s own admission, she had a crush on the star in those days.

Jaya had previously said that she would hide behind the sofa when Dharmendra would come on the set, and when asked about the same, the actor told Zoom, “This is her love and respect speaking. I’ve known Jaya and Amitabh for a very long time now. I still remember the fun times that we had while shooting for Sholay.”

Dharmendra will also be sharing the screen space with Shabana Azmi in this film. It has been hinted that there might be a romantic angle to their story. Dharmendra and Shabana were supposed to do a Sai Paranjpye film almost four decades ago but it got shelved and they did not get a chance to work together as the film was shelved. The actor also pointed out that he and Shabana did a film together in the 1980s, which was directed by Brij Sadanah, Mardon Wali Baat.

In an earlier chat with Filmy Shilmy, Shabana had said, “Karan Johar is a dedicated Hindi film fan. Definitely, the whole idea of romance between me and Dharmendra’s character, is based on little snippets on Hindi films…so you will feast on what he’s got there. I can’t reveal too much, but it is certainly there.”

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani marks Dharmendra’s first film with Karan Johar. The actor was last seen in 2018’s Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se. His upcoming films also include Apne 2 starring Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.
