Deva box office collection day 1: Shahid Kapoor-starrer Deva released on Friday and the film, which has been promoted as an action thriller, was not able to attract the audience on its first day in the theatres. Directed by Malayalam filmmaker Rosshan Andrrews and written by writer duo Bobby-Sanjay, the film is reportedly a remake of the 2013 Malayalam film Mumbai Police with a different climax. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film opened with Rs 5 crore at the box office.

The earnings of the film are Rs 1.7 crore less than the opening day collection of Shahid Kapoor’s last film Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (2024). Deva witnessed an overall occupancy of 10.24 percent on Friday with about 5142 shows across India. This included 899 shows in Mumbai and 1336 shows in the National Capital Region. The majority of the crowd turned up for the night show.

Shahid’s biggest solo hit at the theatres so far has been Kabir Singh. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga film, which released in 2019, opened with Rs 20.21 crore and made a lifetime collection of Rs 280 crore. His biggest hit in the theatres so far has been Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, which made Rs 300 crore at the box office. The film also starred Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone.

Deva is Shahid Kapoor’s second big screen release after the 2022 film Jersey. In 2023, he featured in the Netflix film Bloody Daddy. Jersey, which was a remake of Telugu film with the same title, flopped at the box office. The film opened at Rs 3.2 crore and earned a lifetime collection of Rs 30.75 crore worldwide.

Shahid’s biggest hit so far, Kabir Singh, was a remake and while at that time, remakes were a flavour of the season, in the recent years, it has been observed that remakes aren’t working at the box office. Varun Dhawan’s Baby John, which released last month, also failed to attract the audience to the theatres and crashed in the first week.
