Indian filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar passed away on Friday. He was not keeping well for the last few days and was admitted to the hospital last night. Neetu Chandra confirmed to indianexpress.com that the filmmaker died at 3.30 am on Friday. His last rites were performed in Santacruz, Mumbai.
Many Bollywood celebrities attended Sarkar’s funeral. Parineeta actor Vidya Balan came along with her husband Siddarth Roy Kapur. Rani Mukerji, who worked with the filmmaker in Mardaani, was also present. Earlier, Rani had shared in a statement, “I’m very shocked by the news of Dada’s passing away. We were planning to meet this week when I got back, but it is just so unexpected. His wife (Panchali boudi) called me at 4 am when this happened. It is really sad and shocking that Dada has passed away like this.”
Dia Mirza, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Rhea Chakravarty, Deepika Padukone and other people from the Hindi film industry reached Santacruz to pay their last respects to Sarkar. TV actor Divyanka Tripathi, who worked with Sarkar on the web show, Coldd Lassi Aur Chicken Masala arrived with her husband Vivek Dahiya.
As per reports, Sarkar was on dialysis and his potassium levels had dropped drastically. He was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.
Pradeep Sarkar’s made his directorial with Parineeta, which also marked the debut of actor Vidya Balan on the silver screen. He then directed Laaga Chunari Mein Daag starring Rani Mukerji, Konkona Sensharma and Abhishek Bachchan. His filmography also includes Lafangey Parindey, Mardaani and Helicopter Eela. Helicopter Eela, which starred Kajol, was his last film. He recently directed the ZEE5 web series Duranga.
