Chhaava box office collection day 25: Two months into 2025 and Bollywood is already experiencing jitters, with signs that the year could turn out even worse than 2024. Despite a handful of films hitting the screens, the only real respite for the industry has come from director Laxman Utekar’s historical actioner Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna in the lead roles. Nonetheless, based on its current figures, Chhaava also shows the promise of outperforming director Amar Kaushik’s Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, which was the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024.
On Monday, which marked its 25th day in theatres, Chhaava recorded an India nett collection of Rs 6.25 crore, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, taking its domestic total to Rs 526.05 crore. While the Hindi version contributed Rs 5 crore to the day’s overall figure, the Telugu iteration raked in Rs 1.25 crore. During the day, the film also crossed the Rs 700 crore mark worldwide, becoming the ninth-highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
Although Chhaava’s fourth Monday figure is 41.86 per cent lower than its Day 24 earnings (Rs 10.75 crore), the fact that it continues to maintain momentum nearly a month into its theatrical run is impressive. Mounted on a reported budget of Rs 130 crore, according to Koimoi, Chhaava’s worldwide gross currently stands at Rs 705.3 crore.
At the same time, Chhaava is also outperforming Stree 2 in its fourth week. While the horror comedy earned Rs 8.5 crore, Rs 11 crore and Rs 3.25 crore on its fourth Saturday, Sunday and Monday, respectively, Chhaava collected Rs 16.75 crore, Rs 10.75 crore and Rs 6.25 crore on the corresponding days. This suggests that the Vicky Kaushal-Rashmika Mandanna-starrer has the potential to surpass Stree 2 in lifetime collections. While the horror comedy ended its theatrical run with an India nett collection of Rs 597.99 crore and a worldwide gross of Rs 857.15 crore, Chhaava’s significantly lower overseas earnings could pose a challenge. So far, it has amassed only Rs 85 crore from international markets, whereas Stree 2 had garnered Rs 144 crore from overseas collections alone.
On Monday, Chhaava recorded an overall occupancy rate of 9.98 per cent in the Hindi market and 17.26 per cent in the Telugu market. The morning shows started with 5.81% and 15.10% occupancy, respectively, with rates improving as the day progressed — rising to 9.59% and 16.69% in the afternoon, 10.61% and 17.57% in the evening and peaking at 13.90% and 19.66% during night screenings.
Produced by Dinesh Vijan under the banner of Maddock Films, Chhaava is an adaptation of the Marathi novel of the same title and is based on the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, the second ruler of the Maratha Empire. In her review of the movie, SCREEN’s Shubhra Gupta wrote: “The torture porn in the climax of Vicky Kaushal’s film reminds you of the systematic flaying of Jesus in ‘The Passion of Christ’.” Incidentally, Stree 2 was also produced by the same banner.
