Chhaava box office collection Day 1: The Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava, in which he plays the role of Sambhaji Maharaj, has become the biggest Hindi opener of 2025 after its release on February 14. On the first day, Chhaava collected Rs 31 crore at the domestic box office, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. Later in the day, producer Maddock Films shared that the film made Rs 33.1 crore on the opening day. They also claimed that the film earned Rs 50 crore gross worldwde. This makes it the biggest opener of Vicky’s career as a leading man. The film has been directed by Laxman Utekar.
Before Chhaava, the biggest Hindi opener of 2025 was Sky Force, starring Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya. The movie made Rs 15.3 crore. The makers of the film were accused of block bookings by trade analyst Taran Adarsh. As per Sacnilk, the film went on to make over Rs 111 crore at the box office during its run. The controversial practice of block bookings involves a producer purchasing tickets for their own films, in an effort to boost numbers and tailor appearances.
Before Chhaava, the film Bad Newz was Vicky’s biggest opener. It made around Rs 8 crore. More impressively, the opening collections of Chhaava are around the same as the combined total of his last six theatrical releases – Bad Newz (Rs 8 cr), Sam Bahadur (Rs 5 cr), The Great Indian Family (Rs 1 cr), Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (Rs 5 cr), Bhoot Part One The Haunted Ship (Rs 5 cr), Uri (Rs 8 cr).
Chhaava was released on Valentine’s Day. In the Mumbai region, the film had over 1300 shows, which witnessed an overall occupancy of around 42 percent. In the Delhi-NCR region, the film had around 1300 shows on the first day, which saw an overall occupancy of around 27 percent.
Chhaava is facing some competition from the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Captain America: Brave New World. On the first day, the film could only make Rs 4.3 crore in India, across English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The Anthony Mackie-starrer hasn’t received favourable reviews and with the overall lack of excitement for the film, it doesn’t look like it will be an actual threat for Chhaava.
Last week, Loveyapa, starring Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan, was released in theatres amid much hype but after a week in theatres, it barely managed to make Rs 7 crore in total. Himesh Reshammiya-starrer Badass Ravikumar, which also released a week ago, also made around Rs 8 crore in a week’s time. Now, it appears that both Loveyapa and Badass Ravikumar are running out of time, as Chhaava will possibly take over their shows.
Chhaava also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Divya Dutta.
