In a major respite for actor Celina Jaitly, the Delhi High Court has directed the Central government to take steps to provide effective legal representation to her brother, Major (retd) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, who has been detained in the UAE over an alleged “national security case” since September 2024. Taking note of her statement that she is the “sole surviving immediate blood relative” of Vikrant, the court also instructed the authorities concerned to make an attempt to ensure contact between the actor and her brother.

Expressing her happiness over the latest development, Celina penned a long note on Instagram, detailing the battle she has been fighting for over a year. Dubbing the court’s direction a “ray of hope,” she noted, “after an arduous 14 months, I have finally reached the light at the end of the dark tunnel.” Sharing a photo of herself with Vikrant, she also mentioned that the court has ordered the appointment of a nodal officer to liaise with the UAE. Celina also maintained that Vikrant is a “victim of an enforced disappearance for 9 months, followed by detainment.” She noted, “You fought for us, bhai, now it’s time for us to stand behind you.”

“For one year, I have searched for answers for you. Now I continue my prayers to our respected government to fight for you, to bring you back safely. My government, the only entity I trust, is the Government of India, and I know they will do everything to protect this 4th-generation soldier, son, grandson and great-grandson of war veterans, who has given his everything, his entire youth, in the service of our nation, holder of the COAS Commendation for Gallantry,” Celina noted.

She added, “Indian soldiers abroad continue to be targeted for reasons unknown. I pray to my government for their help and protection for our defenders. I continue to stand with my brother and for myself as I navigate this test that God has put our way.” Celina and Vikrant are the children of late Colonel Vikram Kumar Jaitly and the grandchildren of late Colonel Eric Francis of the Rajputana Rifles.

Maintaining that her brother was illegally abducted and detained in the UAE on September 6, 2024, Celina had informed the High Court that she hasn’t been able to secure basic information about him since then, including details regarding his welfare and legal status. Vikrant had been living in the UAE since 2016 and was employed with Matiti Group, which is engaged in trading, consultancy, and risk-management services. The matter will come up for hearing again in the Delhi HC on December 6, 2025.
