Casting director Mukesh Chhabra says actors looking for work often attend funerals to make contacts: ‘I don’t understand that desperation’

He gave an example to support his statement and said, “One senior actor passed away. At the funeral, a lot of actors were present. I don’t know why I am saying this, but few people attended the funeral just to make contacts, I don’t understand that desperation.”

Mukesh continued, “If you have learnt the craft, you are working hard, then I respect that. You have not taken any training, you have not learned anything and you are trying to come directly, that too in such situations. It’s frustrating to hear people speak in such situations, where they are not considering the reality of the world and their own situation.”

Mukesh expressed that he never understood this behavior, and on numerous occasions, he has advised struggling actors to at least respect the place they are in, especially if it’s a funeral. He added that this situation upsets him.

The casting director had previously slammed the culture of young actors who rely on their Instagram followers to get work. He told Indian Express, “This generation is very different. They focus more on social media rather than their craft. I have seen Rajkummar Rao struggling, I have seen Vicky Kaushal work hard. Today’s youngsters talk about making reels, brag about their Instagram followers list.”
