The Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta gave it a one-and-a-half stars rating. Shubhra wrote in her Kabir Singh review, “Shahid Kapoor takes the movie and tries to run with it. But he has been a hero at the centre-stage for too long; his responses are too practiced, too familiar. He feels too old for this role, and his dissolution never feels as sharply realized as the one he managed so superbly in Udta Punjab.”
She added, “Arjun Reddy shows us vulnerability, and that’s the only way he keeps us with him; Kabir Singh is all flourish, mostly surface. Box Office India's Vajir Singh shared in a statement, "It's complete Shahid mania. Kabir Singh and the actor's powerhouse performance in the film is what everyone is talking about. It's been a while since a film has made this big an impact."
Interestingly , Vicky Kaushal starrer Uri (Rs 245.36 crore) was the biggest hit this year but Kabir Singh is expected to supercede it's numbers within the next few weeks. "Ranveer Singh's solo hit Simba collected 240cr + , while Varun Dhawan's Judwaa 2 closed at 139 cr...with Kabir Singh we have a clear winner on our hands with Shahid Kapoor making the biggest impact this year" said trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
