The first Monday earnings for Bhumi Pednekar’s Thank You for Coming and Rajveer Deol’s Dono has been somewhat discouraging. After cinema halls were flooded with audiences coming in to watch films like Jawaan, OMG 2 and Gadar 2, over the last two months, October has started on a lethargic pace.
According to trade expert Girish Johar, Dono earned Rs 7 lakh on Monday, which was its day 5 in cinemas. Its total earnings has now crossed the Rs 1 crore mark.
According to Anil Kapoor Films and Balaji Motion Pictures, Thank You for Coming minted Rs 80 lakh on Monday (day 4), ad its total collection stands at Rs 5.22 crore nett in India.
Dono, even after being a ‘clean’ family entertainer and starring Sunny Deol’s son Rajveer and Poonam Dhillon’s daughter Paloma, has not been able to bring in the moolah. The romantic drama has failed to capitalise on a buy-one-get-one (BOGO) offer on tictet sales, and an extensive promotional campaign where the star parents and their friends — actors Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Anupam Kher — came out to talk about the film.
Bhumi Pednekar’s film on the other hand received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and talks about female pleasure. However, the film, even after receiving positive reviews from film critics and being hailed at the Toronto International Film Festival, is struggling to attract an audience. The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta, in her review said that the film revels in its joyous silliness and gave it a three star rating.
