Kangana Ranaut and Raghava Lawrence‘s horror-comedy Chandramukhi 2 remained stable at the box office on day six of release, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. Filmmaker P Vasu’s film earned around Rs 2 crore on Tuesday, taking its total earnings to Rs 31 crore. The film saw a 13.10 percent occupancy in the Tamil- speaking market, but saw a significant decline in the Telugu speaking region of Hyderabad.
While the Kangana Ranaut-starrer is finding an audience in southern states of India, it has hardly made any buzz in western and norther India and is facing sharp competition from two others films that released the same week — Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s The Vaccine War and Varun Sharma and Richa Chadha’s Fukrey 3.
But Chandramukhi 2’s commercial performance is an improvement over Kangana’s last few releases, Dhaakad (2022), Thalaivii (2021), Panga (2020) and Judgementall Hai Kya (2019). Now, the actor is preparing for her next, Tejas, directed by Sarvesh Mewara. Tejas tells the story of Tejas Gill, an Indian Air Force pilot.
Chandramukhi 2 is the sequel of Rajinikanth and Jyothika’s Chandramukhi (2005) which was also helmed by P Vasu. The film was an official remake of the Kannada film Apthamitra (2004), which in turn was the remake of Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu (1993). Chandramukhi 2 is produced by Lyca Productions and Subaskaran. Lyka Productions have delivered hit films such as Rajinikanth and Shankar’s 2.0, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rise, RRR, and Ponniyin Selvan.
