Sanjay Dutt starrer Bhoomi earned Rs 7.48 crore in its first weekend. The film’s growth at the box office might not be as great as its competitor Newton, starring Rajkummar Rao, which had shown a 35.71 percent growth on Sunday, collecting a total of Rs 6.90 crore.
But considering the fact that the film is a comeback vehicle of Sanjay Dutt after a gap of almost three years, one would have expected it to do really well, looking at the fan base the star enjoys among the Indian audience. However, it seems the script fails the actor’s caliber.
Now, with weekdays knocking on the door, the film is expected to show a slow growth. And with Judwaa 2 release around the corner, Bhoomi’s performance might suffer big time.
Sanjay Dutt’s comeback film Bhoomi is a revenge drama that centres around a father-daughter relationship. While Sanjay plays the father, Aditi Rao Hydari plays the titular character of Bhoomi, the daughter. The film also stars television actors Sidhant Gupta and Sharad Kelkar.
Earlier, talking about Sanjay Dutt and the film Bhoomi, director Omung Kumar said, “A new Sanjay Dutt that we have never seen before as a performer. He is playing his age and the role is highly performance oriented. I offered an actor a role that he has never done before, something that will be marked as iconic for the next 10 years of his journey as a performer.”
The film released on September 22.
