Boney Kapoor openly discussed his relationship with late wife Sridevi, acknowledging his feelings of guilt for falling in love with her while he was still married to Mona Shourie. In a recent interview, the producer admitted to being ‘very honest’ with his first wife about his emotions towards Sridevi. He also shared his mother’s reaction after she sensed his affection for the late actor.
Sharing the instance to Zoom TV, Boney said, “My mother could see (my feelings for Sridevi). On the day of Raksha Bandhan, she gave a thaali (puja plate) with Rakhi to Sridevi and asked her to tie me a rakhi (laughs). Sridevi just went to the room and I told her, ‘Don’t worry, don’t bother, keep this thaali here.’ She didn’t understand what the rakhi was all about.”
He added, “My love for Sridevi was there. I wooed for almost five to six years before I reached the peak or rather I got to know I am in a good space with her.”
Despite his marital status, Boney says he maintained transparency with Mona regarding his affection for Sridevi. He explained, “I do feel guilty but I was very honest with my wife, Arjun’s mother, Mona. She very well knew what my feelings were for Sridevi. In fact, Sridevi had stayed in the house much before we got married. I went out of my way for a lot of things where she is concerned. So (Mona) could see it,” he said.
Boney’s marriage to Mona lasted from 1983 to 1996, after which he tied the knot with Sridevi in the same year. With Mona, Boney shares two children – Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor. Together with Sridevi, they welcomed their daughters Janhvi Kapoor in 1997 and Khushi Kapoor in 2000.
