Baaghi 4 box office collection Day 1: Growing a movie franchise is a tricky task by all standards, as each instalment has to be better than the last. The makers of Baaghi 4 certainly made an attempt, but they fell short on the first day of the theatrical run. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film made Rs 12 crore on its opening day, which barely puts it over the first film and behind the second and third film.

The first Baaghi film, directed by Sabbir Khan, made Rs 11.85 crore on its opening day, while its successors made Rs 25.1 crore and Rs 17.5 crore, respectively. It is important to note that Baaghi 3 released just before the lockdown so its theatrical run was shortened. This time around, the franchise has tried to bring in a new flavour with director A Harsha and new cast members Sanjay Dutt, Harnaaz Sandhu and Sonam Bajwa.

Coming to its competition, Baaghi 4 is currently locking horns with the likes of Param Sundari (Rs 41.6 cr), Lokah Chapter 1 (Rs 64.45 cr) and the Bengal Files (Rs 1.75 cr). The Conjuring: Last Rites also dipped its hand into the jar and came up with Rs 18 crore on its opening day. While Tiger has Vivek Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files beat right off the line, it will take serious effort to overtake all the other titles in the running. The film has already been handicapped by poor reviews, and it needs to deliver a strong weekend performance before it starts bleeding shows and gets left behind further in the race.

Baaghi 4 had around 4000 shows on its opening day, with Delhi NCR and Mumbai leading the pack with 943 and 717 shows. The other action film of the summer was War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, and the film currently sits at an Indian nett collection of Rs 236 crore. It made Rs 52 crore on its first day, which is more than 4 times what Baaghi has managed to do. Tiger, who was part of the first War, saw a pretty impressive first day for that film (Rs 53.35 crore). Now burdened with poor reviews, heavy competition, Tiger and Baaghi 4 have to prove that they can hold their own.

The occupancy rates of the film stayed steady throughout the day, with the average rate coming out to be 28.32%. The morning and afternoon shows achieved 22.16% and 22.37% occupancy, respectively, while the evening and night shows only did slightly better at 27.51% and 37.23%.

The A Harsha directorial features Tiger, Sanjay, Sonam, Harnaaz, Upendra Limaye, Sunit Morarjee, and Nalneesh Neel. The film is being backed by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.
