Ashneer Grover, former co-founder and managing director of the Indian fintech company BharatPe, became an overnight sensation after his appearance on the first season of Shark Tank India. His blunt attitude and razor-sharp words quickly became his USP, and among them, the word “doglapan” stood out. What started as an offhand remark soon went viral, becoming a meme, a fan favourite, and eventually even the title of his book ‘Doglapan: The Hard Truth about Life and Start-Ups’.

Recently, filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan visited Ashneer’s Delhi home for a new episode of her YouTube series, where the entrepreneur revealed that he has officially trademarked the word doglapan. Curious about the story, Farah asked while pointing at his book: “Where did this start?”

Recalling the moment, Ashneer said, “At Shark Tank, mai kisiki utaar raha tha when I blurted out ‘doglapan.’” Interrupting him, Farah quipped, “Kisi ki nahi, sabki utaar raha tha.” The two broke into laughter as Ashneer admitted he had no idea the word would become such a sensation.

Farah then asked if the viral moment inspired his book. Jumping in, Ashneer’s wife Madhuri explained, “Yes, and that’s when he went ahead and trademarked Doglapan.”

Ashneer joked, “Now, every time you say the word doglapan, you’ll have to pay Rs 50,000.” Farah immediately turned to her co-guest Dilip and warned, “Bhai, don’t say doglapan, warna paise dene padenge.”

As the house tour continued, Farah admired a striking fireplace, remarking, “This kind of fireplace can only exist in Delhi.” Ashneer revealed he has four of them in his house. Spotting a Shark Tank trophy tucked inside one, Farah teased, “Out of four fireplaces, you chose to keep your Shark Tank trophy in one?” Ashneer laughed and replied, “I had to fit it somewhere.”

Later, while taking in the grand house, Farah asked Madhuri who managed it all. Without hesitation, Madhuri said, “Home management is my thing. Ashneer gets stressed.” Ashneer then added: “I have OCD, so everything has to be absolutely perfect.”

Farah chuckled, “In that case, you must have gone crazy on Shark Tank.” Ashneer agreed to her comment, “It was quite visible on TV.” To which Farah added with a laugh, “Your OCD must have been overcharged.”
