Aaliyah Kashyap, the daughter of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, has been a social media influencer for a few years now. The 22-year-old recently took to her YouTube channel to answer some of her followers’ questions about how she makes a living via social media, and how she goes about managing her lifestyle with the money she makes through these channels.
Aaliyah, who said that she had gotten many DMs about her earnings, chose to answer two questions – ‘How does earning work with social media?’ and, ‘Is social media your only source of income?’ Aaliyah said that 80 percent of her income is through brand deals, and that varies monthly, because she doesn’t get the same number of deals every month. “The way I earn personally is mainly through brand deals. I would say that 80 percent of my earnings are through brand deals and it’s different every month because I could do two brand deals a month, I could do six a month. So, I don’t really have a set amount of money that I earn every month. It’s very variable,” she said.
Aaliyah also said that she earns through her YouTube channel as well, but also noted that YouTube does not pay as well in India as it does in the US. “YouTube also pays me money, but to be honest, in countries like India and other third-world countries, YouTube doesn’t really pay a lot compared to how much someone in the US would be earning. So YouTube does pay me money every month based on how many views I got that month. The money I get from YouTube is nowhere enough to sustain my life,” she said.
Talking about her other sources of income, Aaliyah said that currently, she is only reliant on social media, but added that she would like to start her own business as well. In the video, Aaliyah spoke about the jewellery business that she had to shut down within a few months because she was facing supply issues.
Aaliyah recently got engaged to her longtime boyfriend Shane Gregoire. The couple is planning to tie the knot in 2025.
