Late actor Satish Kaushik and Anupam Kher shared a decades-long friendship, and after Satish’s death in March, Anupam has often recalled their bond on social media. Satish would have celebrated his 67th birthday on Thursday, and in memory of the actor, Anupam shared a video montage of their old photos on Instagram, and shared in the caption that he will be celebrating his late friend’s memory today, along with Satish’s wife Shashi and daughter Vanshika.
Anupam’s caption in Hindi can be loosely translated as, “My dear friend Satish Kaushik! Happy Birthday! Today, on Baisakhi, you would have turned 67. But I only got the chance to celebrate your birthday with you for 48 years. So I have decided that today, we will try to celebrate your birthday in a spectacular way. The seat beside Shashi and Vanshika will remain empty. Come my friend and watch us celebrate #SatishKaushikNight with #Music #Love and #Laughter! 😍🙏🕉❤️ #HappyBirthdaySatish #BestFriend.”
Anupam’s gesture made his fans emotional. One of them wrote, “This made me so emotional.. …it’s so true life ends but friendship never ends…❤️❤️❤️May God give power to his family and close friends.” Another fan wrote, “Wonderful ❤️❤️ …I got emotional 🥲” One of the fans commented on their rare friendship and wrote, “Very rare we find friendship so bonded to each other. Salute to you sir for keeping the friendship still going and I’m sure Satish sir somewhere from universe will be witnessing it.”
Satish Kaushik passed away on March 8 in Gurugram after suffering a heart attack. After his death, Anupam shared that the two had been friends for over 45 years and would speak to each other every single day. “I am talking to you guys because I need to get rid of my sense of loss of my friend Satish Kaushik. It’s killing me. A friendship of 45 years becomes a habit, a habit you are not ready to let go of. I was about to dial him today to ask what should I eat,” he shared in a video. Anupam and Satish first became friends when they met as students at the National School of Drama in 1975.
