Anubhav Sinha directed Ra.One, starring Shah Rukh Khan, back in 2011 and in the recent years, the film’s competent visual effects have gotten a lot of praise. This has led to a bunch of fans demanding a sequel for the film as well but so far, neither Sinha nor SRK have spoken about a sequel. However, in a recent chat Sinha spoke about Ra.One, working with SRK and said that he regrets failing Shah Rukh Khan.

In a chat with Connect FM Canada, Anubhav looked back at his experience of making a superhero film with Shah Rukh and said regretfully that he “did not make a good enough film” with SRK. “I think I failed Shah Rukh Khan. I did not make a good enough film but it was such a great opportunity, I should have made a better film,” he said.

When asked about the possibility of a sequel, Sinha said that it was a very “presumptuous thought.” He said that when he thought of Ra.One, he had just delivered the biggest flop of his career but luckily, he got a chance to make a film with SRK. “It’s a very presumptuous thought. Such big films happen, you don’t plan them. When I thought of Ra.One, I had just delivered the biggest flop of my career thus far, Cash. and I thought of that film and it happened, which is quite surprising to say the least,” he shared. Sinha concluded by saying that Shah Rukh Khan was the “hardest working man” he knows.

In the past, Sinha has expressed that he did not appreciate when the film was treated “harshly.” SRK too has spoken about the film being a flop. In an earlier chat with the same publication, Sinha said that he was heartbroken when he read Shah Rukh’s statement, and said, “My heart was broken. I thought to myself, ‘How could Shah Rukh say this?’” He said that the actor “had given the film his all” but added, “He was hurt, that’s probably why he said what he said. I was hurt by what he said, but I was young then.”

He also opened up about the love that film had received online since its release and said, “I am a big believer of how long a film lives determines its legacy. The fact that a film that was so harshly judged and criticised 12 years back lives on online with people calling it ahead of its time speaks volumes. Then, that is the film’s success and it gives me a lot of happiness.”
