Pranay Reddy Vanga, who served as a producer on his brother Sandeep Reddy Vanga‘s new film, Animal, said that Rashmika Mandanna has not received due appreciation for her performance in the film. He also noted how Triptii Dimri’s cameo appearance has attracted more attention, and said that at the end of the day, ‘the wife is the wife, girlfriend is the girlfriend’, implying that Triptii can never replace Rashmika as the film’s female lead, despite the skewed interest.
Chatting with iDreamMedia, Pranay said that the criticism against Animal has mostly come from the English-speaking critics in Mumbai, while the Telugu media has been mostly lenient. “There’s a gang forming,” he said, “They want to bring him down.” Asked why anybody would want that, Pranay added, “First thing is, he’s a South Indian guy coming to Mumbai, dictating terms there.” Absolving Bhushan Kumar and T-Series of any suspicion, Pranay continued, “These English-speaking critics are far from reality. They should travel from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in a second-class coach to see what people are going through… Can’t do much.”
Pranay pointed out the lack of appreciation that Rashmika has been getting, despite having delivered, in his opinion, the film’s best performance after Ranbir Kapoor and Bobby Deol. He suggested that PR machinery might have something to do with it. Asked about the complaints regarding the film’s anti-feminist tone, Pranay said, “Geetanjali is such a powerful character, and still they just want to make issues. Rashmika did an equally good job, compared to Ranbir. She’s one of the top three actors of the film, alongside RK and Bobby. But the north media isn’t writing much about her. It’s all PR agencies. That matters.”
Pranay denied that neither him or Sandeep, or anybody from their production house, is behind the attention that Triptii has been getting. He said, “Triptii got a lot of fame. There’s a PR agenda. She did equally well, her character is also good, and the kind of scenes she had… But articles upon articles are being written about her, about how she’s replacing Rashmika, that’s not something we have encouraged anyone to do. Wife is wife, girlfriend is girlfriend.”
Pranay said that over three crore people have watched the movie, and it’s never possible to please 100% of the audience. He said that they are satisfied with having pleased 70% of the crowds. Animal has grossed over Rs 850 crore worldwide since its release earlier this month. “As long as box office speaks, we shouldn’t be worried. As long as producers are happy, studios are happy, you should be happy,” he said.
