Despite facing strong competition from Prashanth Neel’s Prabhas-starrer Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire and Rajkumar Hirani’s Shah Rukh Khan film Dunki, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, continues to attract a substantial audience to the cinema halls. On its 25th day in theatres this Sunday, the action film recorded a domestic nett of Rs 2.18 crore, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk.

Meanwhile, the film’s co-producer Pranay Reddy Vanga recently emphasised the accuracy of the collection figures released by the film’s team, asserting that they have not resorted to inflating numbers or relying on corporate bookings. During a conversation with iDream Media, the interviewer pointed out discussions surrounding the film’s box office collection, expressing that many were sceptical.

“These numbers, whatever we have announced, are exactly accurate. People nowadays have doubts regarding box office figures because, in Bollywood, there is a trend of relying on corporate bookings. We haven’t done that,” he asserted.

A few weeks ago, producer Bhushan Kumar also commented on the matter, explaining how someone could get away with inflating box office numbers.

Mentioning that his knowledge on the matter was based on hearsay, Kumar, however, noted that corporate bookings played a significant role in inflating box office figures. During a conversation with CNN-News18, he was asked if it was possible to inflate figures. In response, Kumar suggested, “Maybe, through corporate bookings. That doesn’t mean people are buying tickets but halls are empty. These are corporate bookings. This happens in all the films. Sometimes, some producers enhance this by funding (bookings) themselves. There’s no proof for this. But sometimes it happens naturally. Making corporates tell their employees to watch a certain film, and they’ll buy the tickets. It’s like if my son wants to watch Toy Story with his friends, I’ll sponsor it, but it’ll look like a corporate booking. These kind of things people do, but this is not your natural collection.”

Previously, Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma had stirred controversy by claiming that Bollywood bigshots were being duplicitous about reporting box office figures. Later, on his talk show Koffee With Karan, when Gadar 2 star Sunny Deol made an appearance, director-producer Karan Johar brought up the topic.

“I was watching your interviews, and you were saying, ‘Ours are organic collections’. What does that really mean? Do you think that there are inflated numbers being given by us? Are we inflating box office numbers, Sunny sir,” Karan asked.

Laughing, Sunny responded, “I don’t know. There are times… That’s the way… The world is moving like that, right? If you ask me frankly, all the companies want the product to move ahead, and try to support it, so that it gets the buzz out there. I know that does happen, and it is happening. But that’s the way it is. It’s not like one particular person… That’s the way society is moving right now.”
