Filmmaker Anees Bazmee, who directed Bollywood’s beloved couple Ajay Devgn and Kajol in his debut film Hulchul (1995), had a front-row seat to their budding romance. The film, which starred Ajay and Kajol in lead roles, was followed by Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998), where Bazmee worked with the couple once again and observed their contrasting personalities come together.
Speaking on Mashable India, Anees shared, “I had a great experience working with them. They fell in love and I am so happy that they got married and they have such a successful marriage. They are two very different people. Ajay is quite serious. However, this isn’t the case, he portrays himself like that, he does a lot of masti too. But mostly he stays calm. Kajol, on the other hand, is very bubbly and she does a lot of mischief. I realised that they like each other without them saying anything about it. I was very happy that they got married.”
Previously, in an interview with Humans of Bombay, Kajol opened up about her love story with Ajay, which blossomed on the set of Hulchul and eventually led to their marriage. “I was going out with somebody, I think he was going out with somebody at that point of time. And we did a film together and we kind of became friends from there. We just started talking, became friends, then eventually I broke up, he broke up and then we became a little more than friends,” she shared.
The couple married in 1999 after four years of dating and are parents to daughter Nysa and son Yug.
