Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor’s daughter Raha will soon turn 3, and the little girl is being brought up amid a sea of love from her grandparents and other family members. Recently, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt opened up about a sweet yet unexpected moment with Raha. He shared that everyone around Raha speaks to her in English, and he decided that he should be the one who talks to her in Hindi. When he said this out loud, his daughter Alia’s reaction left him stunned.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, the Aashiqui filmmaker shared, “A few days ago, my granddaughter Raha came home. I noticed everyone was speaking to her in English, so I said, ‘You all speak to her in English, I’ll speak to her in Hindi.’ As Alia was leaving, she said, ‘That will be your only contribution to her life.’”
Alia’s comment shocked Mahesh and he immediately asked her, “Only contribution to her life?” Hearing this, Alia explained herself and he recalled her comments, “She quickly corrected herself, saying, ‘No, no, sorry! I meant to say great contribution.’ I said, ‘So now you are taking a step back and and correcting yourself?’” To make up, Alia went on to remind him of the life lessons he had instilled in her over the years. “She said, ‘You’re the one who taught me never to make anyone wait, to always be on time — no matter how ordinary the person may be, always respect their time and be five minutes before time’,” Bhatt shared proudly.
In another interview with Humans of Bombay, the veteran director reflected on Alia’s hands-on approach to parenting. He was amazed by how she balances her work and motherhood — always keeping Raha close, even when she is working.
“I recently did an ad with her and Amitabh Bachchan. I noticed there was a vanity van just for Raha,” he said. “Alia told me, ‘Why don’t you go sit in Raha’s room, Papa?’ But I didn’t want to disturb it — it felt like a nursery school, almost like a temple. I said, ‘No, no, the old man doesn’t belong there.’” He added with admiration, “That’s what the new-age heroines are like — they’re working, they’re parenting, they’re attending Gucci events with their babies in tow.”
