Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who is now one of Bollywood’s highest-paid actors, opened up about how he spent his days tirelessly working as an errand boy in a travel agency when he was only fifteen years old. Akshay revealed that he earned Rs 150 with that job and later shifted to places like Dhaka and Bangkok for better opportunities.

In an interview with Curly Tales, Akshay said, “I received my first earning/pay cheque when I was working with a travel agency in Calcutta.” Tiger asked, ‘Errand boy?’ Akshay said, ‘Yes, errand boy.’ Akshay continued, “My salary there was somewhere between Rs 150 to Rs 200. It was somewhere in 1984, and I might be around 15-16 years old.”

When asked why he ventured into jobs so soon, Akshay said, “When a person is not educated, he will of course strive and do something. This was the only job that I got. After that I went to Dhaka, there was a hotel there. Then I went to Bangkok, then Delhi. I worked in Delhi. I used to sell artificial jewellery in Delhi. I used to purchase jewellry in Delhi and sell it here in Bombay. If I got the jewellery for Rs 20,000, I used to sell for Rs 24,000.”

Akshay, in an interview with Mid-day, had previously revealed that his journey to stardom took a major turn when he visited Natraj studio. Scheduled for a flight to Bangalore, he was approached by a make-up artist who offered him a chance to become a hero. Akshay accepted and received his payment that day. He recalled receiving three checks: Rs 5000 for the first film, Rs 50,000 for the second, and Rs 1.5 lakh for the third.
