The battle lines have been drawn courtesy KRK. It will not just be destruction this Diwali from Shivaay but an all-out unofficial war as Ajay Devgn’s movie locks horns with Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil at the box office. And Ajay has already fired the first salvo while Karan has chosen to remain silent citing self-respect and dignity.
Regardless of who says what on Twitter about both the films, the battle will ultimately boil down to screen numbers. And looking at the way PVR cinemas have been promoting Ae Dil Hai Muhskil, KJo seems to have apparently got a prominent multiplex on his side in the battle. But then post the opening weekend, it will be the content, screenplay and performances that will ultimately dictate the real winner. Let’s find out how the two movies fare when pitted against each other:
Clash of superstars – Ajay Devgn vs Ranbir Kapoor
Ajay Devgn is the bigger superstar if one were to go purely by the track record. Not that he has not delivered duds in the past but for every Action Jackson and Himmatwala, there has been a Singham Returns and Drishyam.
Ranbir Kapoor, on the other hand, is thirsty for a box-office hit after a string of failures. His career has hit rock bottom as has his personal life.
On the scale of acting, both are equally balanced.
Director’s cut – Karan Johar vs Ajay Devgn
KJo wins this one hands down. He is back doing what he is best at with a genre that he is absolutely comfortable directing. Back after a long hibernation, KJo would be looking to leave a long-lasting impact.
Ajay Devgn’s track record as a director is not exactly inspirational. His directorial debut U Me aur Hum (2008) had tanked at the box-office. With Shivaay, it remains to be seen how well he has tackled this action thriller set in snow-capped mountains.
Storyline
If intrigue is the key to build great buzz, Shivaay has managed to do that till now. The trailer looks exciting, the action looks top class filmed in the scenic Bulgaria. No one knows what exactly the story is or who the main villain Ajay is battling against. Not to forget the presence of a cute kid in the movie that will keep the young audience excited.
While it will be a bit too premature to comment on Ae Dil Hai Mushkil as the makers have only released a small teaser, the movie seems to be a love triangle from the looks of it. We hope it is not the usual cliches.
The A factor of Ae Dl Hai Mushkil – Aishwary Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma are names big enough to get you footfalls in theaters. Add Ranbir Kapoor, SRK and Fawad Khan to the cast and you have the best cast of 2016 in one single film. On paper, Karan has managed the best A-list casting coup of recent times.
Ajay Devgn is the lone big name in the film. One needs wait and watch who the man pitted against Ajay is. If he happens to be someone equally powerful, the scales will be well-balanced.

Music
If the teaser of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has received a great response on social media, it is because of the genius of the new Mozart of Bollywood, Pritam. Suffice to say the title track has caught on the imagination of the viewers.
Shivaay, on the other hand, is yet to spin out some arresting melody.
