Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her Hindi film debut with Rahul Rawail’s Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, in which she starred opposite Bobby Deol. In a recent interaction, Bobby recalled shooting the film with Aishwarya in Switzerland and shared how they managed to film it on a limited budget.
Speaking about Aishwarya and how she was nervous on the sets of the film, Bobby told Radio Nasha, “No doubt Aishwarya is one of the most beautiful actors in our country, but it was her first film, so she was a little bit nervous but she is a very talented dancer.”
Sharing details about shooting the film with limited amenities, Bobby said, “We were in Switzerland for 40 days aur main pak gaya tha Switzerland se (I got bored of Switzerland). The whole unit would get on a bus at 7 am in the morning, and we would shoot wherever Rahul (Rawail) stopped the bus. At that time, we didn’t have chairs to sit, but luckily there was grass everywhere, so we would be sitting on the ground. But it was exciting and fun.”
Recalling how Aishwarya got hurt while shooting a scene in the film, Bobby said, “We also shot in a hot air balloon, but the landing got messed up and Aishwarya hurt her head. I somehow got saved. I’ve never talked about this incidence, but luckily she was fine.”
Bobby Deol’s comments come at a time when the debate about rising entourage costs in the film industry has been gaining attention. In a recent interview with Cyrus Broacha, director Sanjay Gupta spoke about the same and said, “I know certain actors who have six makeup vans. It’s mandatory. The first van is his personal space. This is real; I’m very serious. Wahan saab nanga baithte hain (Sir sits naked in that van). Then, next to that is saab’s other van, wahan pe saab makeup and hair karte hain (There, sir has his makeup and hair done). Uske baaju mein is the van jahan saab meetings karte hain (In the van next to that, sir has his meetings). Hear me out. There’s a fourth van, which has his gym. Wahan saab workout karte hain (Sir works out there). I said fine. You have to keep one thing in mind; workout van means he’ll bring his trainer, his assistant, the driver of the van, and the maintenance man of the van. That’s six people for one van. Then, makeup and hair and the stylists have their own assistants.”
