After all the brouhaha around how everybody has been mispronouncing Karisma Kapoor‘s name until she chose to correct the public recently, her contemporary, actor Esha Deol has also revealed the correct way to pronounce her name. In a recent interview, Esha also revealed the meaning of her name.
Talking to Instant Bollywood, the actor shared that her name is pronounced as “Ae-sha” and not “Ee-sha”. She said, “Aaj tak yeh topic chal raha hai (This is a never-ending topic). Esha means ‘divine’s beloved’. It is a Sanskrit word.” Watch the video here:
Reacting to the video, netizens said that they could not help but observe how Esha is now looking and sounding more and more like her mother, Hema Malini, as time goes by. One person commented, “Ye to bilkul Hema Malini ki tarah dikhne aur bolne lag gayi hai 😳,” another person commented, “That sounds wonderful.”
Some time ago, Karisma Kapoor had explained how to pronounce her name correctly. Every one, including her sister, Kareena Kapoor, had apparently been mispronouncing her name. Around the release of her film Murder Mubarak, she had said that her name’s correct pronunciation is ‘Ka-rizz-ma’. Netizens were quite surprised with the fact that Karisma had been going along with being called ‘Ka-rish-ma’.
Esha recently got divorced from her husband of 12 years, Bharat Takhtani. The two are parents to daughters — Radhya and Miraya. On the work front, she was last seen sharing the screen with Ajay Devgn in his OTT debut web-series — Rudra: The Edge of Darkness (2022) and Suniel Shetty’s Hunter Tootega Nahi Todega (2023).
