The side under Pat Cummins' leadership reached the final of the 2024 IPL. However, they did not match Shreyas Iyer's high-flying Kolkata Knight Riders on the night in Chennai. However, SRH does have an IPL trophy which they managed to win in 2016 beating Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final. In 2018, the franchise came close to winning the title for a second time but fell short to the Chennai Super Kings in the final. Other than that, SRH have reached the playoffs on four other occasions - 2013, 2017, 2019, 2020. Having made their Indian Premier League debut in the 2013 season after replacing Deccan Chargers — one of the initial eight franchise, who were terminated from playing in the league in 2012.

The franchise, owned by the SUN group, has its home base in the IPL in Hyderabad — the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Some of the stalwarts in the franchise's history include David Warner, who skippered the side to their only title back in 2016 and is also their all-time leading run getter. Kane Williamson was the captain back in the 2018 season after Warner was suspended from playing in the league owing to his inclusion in the Sandpapergate scandal. Shikhar Dhawan had been the captain of the franchise in their initial years. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who ranks seventh in the tally of IPL's all-time leading wicket-takers has also donned the SRH crest for most of his league career.

In the 2024 IPL Auction, SRH made news after it splashed Rs 20.5 crore to buy Australian captain Pat Cummins, making him the first-ever player to break the Rs 20 crore ceiling.
