Takeshi’s Castle, the 90’s iconic TV game show that is etched in the minds of most millennials is now returning as a web show. However, this time, Javed Jaffrey won’t be giving his signature hilarious commentary for the show, instead actor and YouTuber Bhuvan Bam has taken over the mic.

Amazon Prime Video on Thursday announced the Indian reboot of the popular Japanese game show, Takeshi’s Castle, with actor and content creator Bhuvan Bam taking on a new role of a commentator. The eight episodes series is all set to stream on the streaming platform soon.

Bhuvan also took to social media to share that he is part of the show.

Commenting on his involvement in the iconic show, Bhuvan Bam said in a statement, “Since the original version of Takeshi’s Castle was on television, I have been an ardent fan of the concept, execution and the hilarity of the game-show. It’s highly nostalgic for me to have grown up seeing the show and now voicing it, is genuinely a full circle moment. I don’t think there is any one in my generation who hasn’t loved and enjoyed this madcap comedy. Being a part of this incredible game-show is a privilege and an honor. As an entertainer, my viewers have always appreciated the unique yet relatable characters that I’ve portrayed, and I happy to bring a bit of my creative self as ‘Titu Mama’. I am hopeful that the younger generation will get love this show as much as we did.”

Reports of Takeshi’s Castle returning on TV had started making rounds since early 2022. Javed Jaffrey had reacted to these reports in an earlier interview with indianexpress.com and had expressed his desire to be a part of the show. He had said, “I want to be back and do it again. I love that show. It has big connect with people.”

While the show is promising to bring the nostalgia of the 80’s and 90’s back, netizens have taken to social media to express how they will miss Javed Jaffrey, the original commentator of the show’s Hindi version is not a part of it anymore.

One person took to X (formerly called Twitter) and responded to Prime Video’s announcement tweet and wrote, “Javed Jaffrey’s commentary on Takeshi’s Castle was the soundtrack of our childhood. Now, @Bhuvan_Bam steps into the shoes of our beloved commentator. It’s like passing the torch to a new generation of laughter. Can’t wait to see what Titu Mama has in store🤩 #TakeshisCastle.” Another person wrote, “Hoping you catch up Javed jafari iconic commentary on this show.”

The brand-new season promises to retain the eccentricities that people saw in the original version – swashbuckling adventures, fun set-ups, challenging games coupled with hilarious commentary. As contestants travel from one terrifying escapade to another, Bhuvan Bam will be providing a uniquely Indian perspective and add elements of fun and laughter as one of his most-loved characters – ‘Titu Mama’ from BB Ki Vines.
