Former f(x) member, Sulli, passed away in 2019 but in the last few days, her name has been dragged in the ongoing controversy regarding Kim Soo Hyun. Her brother, Choi Dae Hee, recently shared a cryptic post on social media, leading many to believe he was subtly referring to his late sister’s former co-star, Kim Soo Hyun. The actor has been under the spotlight lately due to his alleged dating controversy with Bloodhounds star Kim Sae Ron.
In his earlier post, Sulli’s brother wrote, “Kim-ssi, I have a lot to say, but I can’t. You’re going to fall from your high position, so you better hold on tight.” While he didn’t mention any names, many were quick to assume he was hinting at Kim Soo Hyun, who starred alongside Sulli in the 2017 film Real. The Queen of Tears star is currently facing heavy criticism following accusations of dating a minor.
After his first post got attention, Sulli’s brother followed up with another message. He didn’t confirm who “Kim” was, but he did call out fans who rushed to defend Kim Soo Hyun. He said they were making things worse by constantly dragging his sister’s name into the spotlight.
“I didn’t even mention Soo Hyun’s name, and yet people came swarming in instantly…Must be driving you crazy too, not being able to fact-check anything, right?” he shared on his social media (translation via Koreaboo). Sulli’s brother added he’s spent years wrestling with uncertainty, convincing himself there was no other choice just to stay sane. He added that he has no plans to speak further, saying there are already plenty of people giving “him” a hard time. “Even if I did say something, it wouldn’t change the facts or help anyone,” he wrote.
He signed off with, “So maybe just don’t poke the bear and move along. Oh… and by the way, aren’t you the ones constantly dragging my sister onto the chopping block over similar issues? The way her name keeps getting brought up all over the place—it’s honestly disgusting.”
Former f(x) member, Sulli, the renowned K-pop idol, was found dead at her home at just 25 years old. Her death was ruled a suicide. It later came to light how badly she had suffered due to “mental health issues and cyberbullying.” Sulli, whose real name was Choi Jin Ri, stepped into the Korean entertainment world in 2005 when she was only 11. After joining SM Entertainment, she became part of one of the biggest K-pop groups of the time (At the time BTS was not in the picture). But in 2015, she quit singing to focus on acting, sharing that she was “suffering physically and mentally from malicious and untrue rumours spreading about her.”
In 2017, Sulli starred alongside Kim Soo Hyun in Real. The film caused massive controversy back then, not just for its confusing plot, but also for Sulli’s daring scenes. Sadly, she faced intense backlash after its release. Fans were especially upset that Kim Soo Hyun and the filmmakers stayed silent while Sulli was heavily criticised. Real was directed by Lee Sa Rang, rumoured to be Kim Soo Hyun’s half-brother. He’s also a co-founder of Kim Soo Hyun’s current agency, Gold Medalist.
