Upasana Konidela says ‘proud’ to be in husband Ram Charan’s shadow, he says she is ‘not just a star wife’: ‘She’s my rock’

Upasana Konidela said she is proud to be in husband Ram Charan's shadow. The couple has been married for 12 years now.

Ram Charan and Upasana Konidela have been married since 2012 and in the 12 years of their marriage, Upasana has supported her movie star husband through all his ups and downs and in a recent interview, she spoke about being in his shadow and how she is proud of it. Ram also spoke about Upasana being his rock and said that she keeps the family together.

In a chat with Hindustan Times, Upasana was asked if she ever felt lost in Ram Charan’s shadow and she said, “I want that to happen, because they say behind every successful man there is a woman. When he is shining, it’s great to be the shadow, and when I shine, he is secure enough to be mine.” Upasana also spoke about the initial struggles of being a star wife, primarily because she came from a non-filmy family.

“Previously, it was tough (being married to a star) I came from a different world. Now, I feel proud being his shadow. I learnt that there is so much beauty in being that person for him. He is that for me, and that support is really important. When you shine, there are so many things you are going through, and you need that one person to fall back on,” she said.

Ram Charan was also a part of the same chat and said that Upasana is “definitely not just a star wife.” He added, “She surpasses that label with many roles. Her success extends beyond just the glittering realms of fame. Whether it’s with our family at home or contributing significantly to her philanthropic projects, she excels in all roles due to her unwavering commitment and deep rooted family values. Upasana has beautifully carried forward her family legacy. Beyond being my wife, she’s my rock and the force that keeps us together. I could truly never replicate what she does and she has truly carved her own incredible path.”

Ram and Upasana welcomed their daughter Klin Kaara in June 2023.
