Samantha Ruth Prabhu has been quite vocal about her struggle with the autoimmune condition myositis. From sharing her diagnosis on social media to talking about her recovery and fitness journey in detail, she has updated her fans about her health frequently. In a new interview, the actor described the effects of myositis on her body, which included her waking up to ‘pins and needles’ in her eyes.

The Shaakuntalam actor shared that there was a time when she was obsessed with ‘looking better’ but now she has ‘no control’ over how she looks. Talking about her myositis diagnosis, she told Bollywood Bubble in a new interview, “It was a final breaking of shackles. As an actor, you are always expected to display perfection, perfection on Instagram, and perfection in your films. Earlier, I also could never let it go and just accept who I am. I have always wanted to be better and better, look better and better. Finally, now I am at a place where I have no control over this condition.”

Samantha mentioned that the medication for myositis has “side effects” on her, “One day I am puffy, one day I am fat, one day I am sick. I have no control over how I look.”

Further, the Super Deluxe actor shared that she is sensitive to light and hence she started to wear glasses. “As an actor, your eyes are a medium to express emotions and every day, I wake up with pins and needles in my eyes. I am sensitive to light. I don’t wear glasses just for fun and style, the light actually affects my eyes. I have intense migraine, and I have intense pain in my eyes, they swell from the pain and this has been the case for the past 8 months. This is probably the worst thing to happen to an actor,” said Samantha.

She added, “So if there were any shackles of vanity that were to be broken, they are broken. I have reached to lowest of lows and I have come creeping back up.” Now, it doesn’t bother her what people have to say about how she looks, “Say what you want to say about how I look on the outside, I am happy with how I am on the inside.”

Meanwhile, Samantha is looking forward to the release of her film Shaakuntalam. It is scheduled to hit the theaters on April 14. She has also started shooting for Raj and DK’s India leg of Citadel and Telugu drama Kushi, co-starring Vijay Deverakonda.
