Upasana Kamineni Konidela, wife of Telugu star Ram Charan, has opened up about the challenges that working mums face in the corporate world. Upasana, vice chairman of CSR Apollo Hospitals Group and MD, URLife, a renowned name in the field of medicine spoke about how a woman has to face hardships when she decides to get married or chooses to embrace motherhood. Upasana, who has been married to Ram for over a decade now, is juggling work and motherhood as she takes care of her daughter Klin Kaara, who was born in June last year. When asked about why speculations surrounding women quitting their jobs post marriage and childbirth at the workplace are rampant, she said it is because women perform different roles in her life. Admitting that balancing motherhood and excelling at work is no cakewalk for her, she said, “Being a mom, it is a huge battle for me to be as productive at work as I was before. I am trying my best and know I am going to excel at it.”

She stressed the need for a shift in mindsets in the corporate world for women to navigate changes in her personal and professional life. “Corporate India must make amendments to make it easier for women in India. POSH committees helped in that. I am working with companies on flexible maternity leaves. Another thing I would really like is for women to save their eggs by insurance,” she told Hindustan Times in an interview.
The 34-year-old has been spearheading various programmes to ensure the workplace is more comfortable and conducive for working women. Further commenting on the difficult choice between motherhood and career, she said, “If women would choose to have a career over having babies, they would not have to live off pocket money.

Upasana and Ram opted for a parenthood when the couple was in a “comfortable space.” “When you are ready to have kids and wealthy enough to do so, it will help women and the country to progress. I saved my eggs too, and I am proud to say Ram and I made a choice to have a child when we were in a comfortable space,” she advised.

Thank you. Wonderful times with wonderful people,” Upasana wrote in an Instagram post.
