Sujeeth seems to have bounced back from the underwhelming box office performance of his last directorial, Prabhas-starrer Saaho in 2019, with his new action crime drama They Call Him OG, starring Pawan Kalyan in the lead role. Also starring Emraan Hashmi, it’s become Kalyan’s highest grossing film yet.
On Sunday (day 4), They Call Him OG earned Rs 18.50 crore, which is the same as its earnings on Saturday (day 3). It’s a marginal improvement on the Friday (day 2) collection of Rs 18.45 crore. The highest single-day earnings of the film remain on the opening day last Thursday when it amassed Rs 63.75 crore, before witnessing an 80% drop in its collections.
Additionally, They Call Him OG earned Rs 21 crore from paid previews alone. As per Sacnilk, this rounds up its total domestic box office collection after four days (and paid previews) to Rs 140.20 crore. It’s become Kalyan’s highest grossing film yet, comfortably beating his last release, Krish Jagarlamudi’s period action thriller Hari Hara Veera Mallu, which collected Rs 87 crore earlier this year.
The lion’s share of the domestic box office collection of They Call Him OG belongs to the original Telugu version, followed by the dubbed Hindi, Tamil, and Kannada versions. In the Hindi market, it didn’t face any competition from a major film. Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound, which has been selected as India’s official Oscars entry, made less than Rs 1 crore over its opening weekend.
Overseas, They Call Him OG has earned around Rs 60 crore. Thus, worldwide, it has collected over Rs 200 crore, again becoming Kalyan’s first film to achieve that feat. The film won’t face any fresh competition this week in the Telugu market at least, except the dubbed Telugu version of Rishab Shetty’s action epic Kantara: Chapter 1, the prequel to his 2022 Kannada blockbuster Kantara.
They Call Him OG revolves around the fictional gangster Ojas Gambheera, known as OG, played by Kalyan. It’ set in the volatile Mumbai of early 1990s, which is engulfed in gang wars, leading to violence and chaos in the city. Kalyan’s character is introduced as the one who holds the power to curb the unhinged violence in the state, perpetrated by Hashmi’s gangster character.

They Call Him OG also stars Arjun Das and Priyanka Mohan in key roles. The film has faced significant delays in production and release, particularly after Kalyan was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana. However, the release comes along with huge fanfare, as hordes of Pawan Kalyan fans mobbed the theatres on the opening day, burst firecrackers, and put up life-sized cutouts to celebrate the superstar’s long-awaited release.
