It isn’t easy being a celebrity today, when every move is either scrutinised or sanitised. In such times, things get even worse when a celebrity goes through a setback. There are never-ending speculations, and their subsequent social media posts get flooded with overwhelming negativity with many of them taking sides or fuelling rumours. When Naga Chaitanya and Samantha announced their mutual separation in 2021, after almost four years of marriage, social media was divided.

Talking about the criticism that he received on social media, Naga Chaitanya told Vamshi Kurapati on the Raw Talks with VK podcast, “When we announced our separation, we put out a post saying we had our own reasons, and we were moving on. What other explanation is actually required? I hoped that the audience and media would respect our request for privacy. But it just became headlines, talking points, gossip, and basically, entertainment.”

Naga Chaitanya argued that if he goes on to say anything else, that, too, would become news. “That video byte would give rise to more articles, more gossip, etc… Even now, years after we went our separate ways, there would be interviews where someone would try to provoke an answer out of me. See, I have moved on with grace, and so has Samantha. We have so much respect for each other. Whatever happened was for the betterment of us. I have repeated this many times, and yet, the questions keep on coming. So, how do I even try to put a full stop to something that I haven’t written.”

Asking his detractors to train their focus on better things, including their own lives, Naga Chaitanya said, “Spread positivity instead. See, I have come out of the marriage, gained strength, found love again, and moved on. Also, whatever happened in my life isn’t something that hasn’t happened in anyone else’s life. So, why am I treated like a criminal?”

Naga Chaitanya’s parents — actor Nagarjuna and Lakshmi Daggubati — separated when he was a child, and remarried afterwards. Adding that divorce and breakups are rather sensitive topics for him, the Laal Singh Chaddha actor said, “I come from a broken family. I know that experience. Ahead of breaking a relationship, I would think at least 1000 times about it because I genuinely understand the repercussions. Breaking the marriage was a mutual decision, and we went our own ways. Of course, I feel bad that it happened, but everything happens for a reason. I believe it is up to you to build yourself and keep progressing. You will find the right path soon.”
