HanuMan director Prasanth Varma says nobody would want to clash with ‘mad combination’ of Mahesh Babu and Trivikram: ‘We wanted to move but…’

Filmmaker Prasanth Varma said that they didn't change the release date of HanuMan and let it release on the same day as Mahesh Babu's Guntur Kaaram because they didn't want to loose the Hindi audience.

Filmmaker Prasanth Varma’s recent hit HanuMan was released along with Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram on the occasion of Makar Sankranti this year. Despite the clash, HanuMan emerged as a clear winner and garnered a positive response from the audience. Varma, recently revealed that he wanted to shift the release of his film, as nobody wants to have a box office clash with someone as big as Mahesh Babu. But, he couldn’t as the dates were already locked for the Hindi release of HanuMan and thus they couldn’t move the Telugu release of the film.

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Varma said, “Both the films were released on the same day. Mahesh Babu is such a big star, nobody goes against him. Nobody even in their wildest dreams will want to release their film on the same day as Mahesh Babu, that too on Sankranti. And he’s coming with Trivikram sir, which is again a mad combination.”

Varma explained that Mahesh Babu and Trivikram have worked on two of the biggest Telugu films. Their production house is the largest in Telugu cinema, making them unbeatable. In contrast, Varma’s team includes a director with a few films, a young actor, and a new production house.

He continued, “But we were stuck because Anil Thadani had already confirmed our Hindi release here, so we could not move. We wanted to move, but we were stuck here. There were times when three films got released, and all three films were big hits.”

Varma did not want to disappoint his audience in the North because they were excited for the film after watching the teaser. He said, “I cannot risk losing out on my Hindi audience because this is the audience that I never thought would like my films. But suddenly, after the teaser, the audience from here are putting messages on my social media that we want to watch this film. So, I want my film to reach as many people as possible.”

According to Sacnilk, HanuMan has minted Rs 162 crore in India and Guntur Kaaram has earned Rs 121 crore.
