After eight years of marriage, actors Sanjeeda Sheikh and Aamir Ali announced their separation in 2020, with their divorce being finalized the following year. Now, an interview they gave together while still married has gained attention for Sheikh’s endearing description of Ali’s growth as a partner and as a person.

“I have known him for the last 10 years. He has changed a lot since we got married. He was never an expressive person, and I think I have helped him become one. I am very vocal about my feelings and wanted my partner to be the same,” she said during a 2016 chat with Hindustan Times. “Now, he has become an expert at surprising me. For me, romance is all about spending quality time with your partner. When we were dating, after shooting for 16 hours, I would ensure that I spent at least one hour with him every few days.”

Aamir Ali echoed Sanjeeda Sheikh’s sentiments, highlighting that it was her positive attitude towards life that he loved the most. “I love his honesty and the way he treats me. I want him to remain the way he is. My friends tell me that they want a boyfriend or a husband like Aamir,” she added.

Sheikh and Ali tied the knot in March 2012 amidst successful careers, quickly becoming one of the television industry’s favourite couples. Even the news that the two had become parents to their daughter Ayra Ali, whom they had through surrogacy, was celebrated by fans everywhere. Nevertheless, despite their journey coming to an end, admirers continue to root for the two stars, as exemplified by the widespread adoration Sheikh received for her performance in director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.
