The latest season of the business reality show Shark Tank India appears to be drawing intense scrutiny toward its judges. The blunt feedback, particularly from Vineeta Singh and Anupam Mittal, has left certain founders displeased. Something similar also happened with social media influencer Gaurav Taneja when he brought his company Beast Life on the show. Anupam’s remark about Gaurav being a ‘terrible’ entrepreneur has since gone viral. Recently, Beast Life co-founder Raj Gupta opened up about their Shark Tank India experience during a podcast.
Raj pointed out that a lot of good things were edited out from the pitch. He also shared how most ‘sharks’ were interested in Gaurav rather than their product. Raj said, “We took Beast Life to the tank. However, very little was spoken about our product there. They had tasted the products and said many good things about it but that part was cut out. I found that very controversial. In the tank, the ‘sharks’ were trying to mess around and get things out from Gaurav. I could feel that the ‘sharks’ were more interested in Gaurav than the product. I even said a couple of times that we should talk about the product, but the minute we tried to talk about the business, they wouldn’t let us. They even tried to get us to fight by pointing out unequal equity.”
Raj Gupta also shared how Shar Tank India functions behind the scenes, clarifying that all the grilling is real and nothing is scripted. He even pointed out that there were no retakes in their pitch. “Shark Tank India is not scripted at all, everything that happened was in a single go. Founders are called 2-3 days before the shoot where they are made to practice, but we didn’t do that much.”
Recently at an event, Gaurav Taneja spoke about the makers of Shark Tank India unfairly editing his episode to portray him negatively. Gaurav, who shared the panel with Azhar Iqubal (one of the judges on Shark Tank India), also pointed out that he didn’t learn anything from the Shark Tank experience.
