It’s no longer a secret that Dino James is one of the finalists of Khatron Ke Khiladi 13. While he calls his journey a ‘blessed one’ now, the rapper confessed that he had said no to the show when it was offered to him. “When my team told me, I refused it immediately. But a lot of people around me said that it would be my kind of show. After convincing by the team, I finally said yes,” Dino said, in a chat with indianexpress.com.
The singer added that he had never watched the show and expected it to be a ‘negative space’. Dino shared that he felt reality shows would be all about fighting and drama. “But when I reached there, I realised it was so different. It has been an amazing journey. I think I made it seem difficult in my head. The team and the cast were so welcoming. It was a seamless experience. Because I haven’t been part of Indian television, I didn’t know how it would work but I came back with some amazing memories and friends.”

So will he now suggest his friends to be on KKK? “I don’t know about them but I would love to be part of the show every year. They should use some hack and get me on it permanently,” he laughed.
However, all reality shows also make contestants participate in gimmicks. When asked if he was okay with the same, the rapper said that the team was respectful and intelligent to design gimmicks according to one’s personality, “They never went overboard and it was all fun.”
Talking about his performance on the show, Dino James shared that since he has been brought up in humble circumstances, and he’s used to hardships and village life. He said that he’s used to swimming in streams, climbing trees, and running behind monkeys. “It was in my muscle memory. However, I must add the tasks were far more difficult and strenuous but my childhood experiences did help me.”
Dino added that his struggles are his battle scars and he exhibits them proudly. Defending his art, the singer said that a few rappers project themselves as the ‘bling hip hoppers’ and they are treated similarly. However, there are many like him, who use their words and music to tell important stories. “Rap is never about drugs, cars and girls as people feel. It’s about reflecting yourself through it. It’s about stories of people, struggles and what’s happening in society. I feel proud of my art and the way people love me. I cannot imagine doing anything else apart from this.”
As for his parents who are still skeptical about their son taking up rap as a career, Dino shared that it’s in every profession. “The fear is whether they will make it. Even if you are in the safest place and you don’t show results, your parents would be worried about you. So if you are good, and you know you can do it for a living, I think they would be more than supportive.”

On a final note, we asked the Hustler star whether he will be open to doing more reality shows now. He replied, “It all depends on what kind of shows I am offered. By God’s grace, I have enough money, so I will never take up anything for financial reasons. I do not want to lose Dino James ever.”
